Readers of America Editorial Illustration

This class project is an editorial composition intended to be paired alongside the Book Riot article “What Are The Book-Owning and Book-Reading Habits of Americans? Two Reports Shed Insight” which discusses survey data on how many books Americans own, how book owners most often organize their books, what format people read books in the most, and what genres are decreasing or increasing in popularity over the years.

Because of the content of the article, I wanted people to be the central part of the piece and convey the idea of individual, various reading lives and habits. I executed a strong sense of contrast between the beige and black page background and the bright colors of the main figures. I also just adore the kind of texture that paper and printed text can offer and did not pass up the opportunity to use it for depth.
