36 Days of Type

This class project tasked me with making designs for all characters in the latin alphabet and additional 10 numerals. I made many sketches playing with whatever styles I wanted, as the prompt was quite open, and narrowed it down to 4 broad styles that I liked and wanted to mix and match in this grid. This project was a wonderful exercise in creativity and adapting aesthetic themes to specific forms and exhibits a successful overlap between graphic design and illustration skills.

Style 1 (letter A) is reminiscent of when my first grade teacher told me to stop making all of my letters swirly on my homework.

Style 2 (letter B) I picture as a regal and whimsical drop cap for a fantasy story.

Style 3 (letter C) was inspired by the title treatment for the movie Glass Onion injected with a fantastical, Dungeons & Dragons-like edge.

Style 4 (letter D) is a retro, arcade carpet design that contrasts the smooth, gestural strokes with hard, geometric shapes.
